Furano sits in the centre of Hokkaido, about two and a half hours from Sapporo. There is no airport in Furano itself, but the city is easy to reach by air via Asahikawa or New Chitose, then train, bus or rental car. Always check current schedules before you travel. Winter services and flight availability change with the season.
JR limited express trains run from Sapporo to Furano via Takikawa in roughly two hours and forty minutes. From Furano Station, local buses and taxis connect to the Kitanomine area in about ten minutes. In summer, look out for the seasonal lavender-themed trains on the Furano Line.
Direct highway buses connect Sapporo with Furano in around two and a half hours, a comfortable, no-transfer option that also runs to the Kitanomine district in winter for the ski season.
A rental car gives you the most freedom for the farms of Nakafurano, Biei and the onsen towns. From November to April, Hokkaido roads are snow and ice covered: rent a car with winter tyres (standard in the season), drive slowly, and plan for longer trip times. Our Kitanomine properties let you ski and dine on foot if you would rather not drive at all.
