WHY FURANO

Why Furano?

Hokkaido’s best-kept ski town. Furano delivers the same cold, dry powder as the big-name resorts, without the crowds or the prices. Staying in Kitanomine  ·  Getting to Furano

Powder, not queues

Deep, light snow all season with short lift lines. A local's mountain, not a package-holiday one.

Better value

Accommodation, food and lift tickets cost noticeably less than Niseko or Rusutsu, for the same island snow.

A real Japanese town

Farm stands, ramen, onsen and lavender in summer. Furano runs on more than tourism, and it shows.

Food worth the trip

Furano's farms and kitchens punch above their weight — from curry soup to our own Bears Kitchen burgers.

Guest Reviews

"We stayed for 4 weeks in January and had a lovely stay. The house was perfectly clean, warm, nicely furnished, comfortable, had everything that we needed, and was in a nice quiet location. They even included a lovely welcome basket of local snacks and goodies! The hosts were more than accommodating and very helpful to each of our requests. They even hosted us for dinner and drinks on multiple occasions, at their nearby Farmhouse Restaurant called Bear's Kitchen. Overall, this was a Fantastic stay in the Furano area!"

"We just finished another stay here. It's become our regular spot for exploring Hokkaido by car. The house has great heating in the winter and has a nice breeze in the summer. It's well equipped with everything you need for a stay. We really appreciated how quiet and rural the area is. Whenever we needed something, the hosts were eager to help."

"If you want a peaceful farmstay in a rustic, yet modernised beautiful farmhouse within easy reach of all of Furano's many tourist attractions, you can't beat the Bears House!"

"The house is simple and comfortable. In early August, it's pleasantly cool, with abundant wildlife. At night, we came out to see shooting stars, and during the day, we took walks nearby. All three kids were delighted to embrace nature here."

"The couple that owned the place welcomed us warmly, and had quickly struck up conversation. The atmosphere was cute and cosy and the food, which came out quickly, was simply sublime. I had ordered the lamb souvlaki (which I highly recommend) that was on par, or if not better than anything I have ever had in Australia or elsewhere. You can truly taste the 17 years of dedication in the food served at this place. Highly, highly recommend!"

"We found this restaurant through Google while searching for a place to have dinner and what a beautiful surprise! The food here was amazing, and the owners, Dan and his wife, were incredibly friendly. It's a bit far from town, so I recommend having an early dinner if you'd rather not drive in the dark. All in all, it's a charming little spot surrounded by lush forest."
